Science to
Social Media for Wildland Firefighters
Pilot Project
Science to Social Media for Wildland Firefighters is a pilot project focused on creating science communication content for wildland firefighters, by wildland firefighters. The Montrose Lab is partnering with Hotshot Wellness, a nonprofit providing health information and resources to wildland firefighters, to create social media reels that share relevant science with a wildland firefighting audience, filling a gap in getting science information to the practitioners who care for forests and landscapes.

Our offering is called 6 Minutes for Health. The name draws on the 6 Minutes for Safety briefings that provide daily topics to help firefighters with risk assessment on the fireline. 6 Minutes for Health offers the wildland fire community digestible health information practitioners can use, backed by data and collaboratively produced by wildland firefighters and scientists.

This pilot project is funded by the Mountain & Plains Education and Research Center (MAP ERC) at the Colorado School of Public Health.
